I was sent a box of Redwood Hill Farm and Green Valley Organics products to review. Redwood Hill Farm is a producer of natural goat products, and Green Valley Organics produces lactose free cow milk. They both believe in “providing a sustainable environment and implementing green practices for the benefit of the animals, the land, and the people.
I was sent a variety of yogurts, Kefir milk, and even some sour cream. Do you know what Kefir milk is? I didn’t, until I received these. It’s a sweet milk, and thick. The plain Kefir can be used as a substitute for buttermilk in recipes. The flavored Kefir milk tastes like you are drinking a liquid flavored yogurt. It’s yummy. I tried the Redwood Hill Farm Mango Orange Pineapple Kefir milk, and the Green Valley Organics Blueberry Pom Acai Kefir Milk. I also used the Green Valley Organics Plain Kefir in a recipe. Their milk is great. I am now a big fan of Kefir.
I’ve been tasting the different varieties of yogurt from both of them, and I was surprised at how thick the yogurts are. I prefer the Redwood Hill Farm goat yogurt, over the Green Valley Organics. The Green Valley Organics Lactose Free is even thicker than the Redwood Hill Farm yogurt. I also think they need more fruit in the Green Valley Organics yogurt. I think the Redwood Hill Farm yogurt is perfect the way it is.
I used the Redwood Hill Farm yogurt and the Green Valley Organics Kefir milk to make a Yogurt Cake. It turned out really good. All it needed was some fruit on top. Next time you make a cake that calls for milk or buttermilk, try using Kefir. It adds a sweetness to your cake that is delicious.
Both Redwood Hill Farm and Green Valley Organics are available at Whole Foods Market. To find one close to you, visit their store locator page.
